Building Your Makeup Bag Guide

The amazing world of beauty is a blessing and a curse at the same time. Now a days there are is a lot more diversity, more choices, and of course makeup for every budget. On the flip side, makeup has so much diversity, so many choices it can become overwhelming and lead you down a rabbit hole.  No worries, the Muse Mob put together this comprehensive guide to help ease the anxiety of building a makeup bag, whether you are a beginner or you are starting fresh.

KNOW YOUR SKIN TYPE

Prior to purchasing any products, you must know your skin type. It wouldn’t be wise to purchase a  cream foundation stick if you have oily skin. If you are not sure what your skin type is email us at info@musemob.com and we can help you with tips.

Plan, Budget, Commit

I have learned over the years that impulsive shopping is the worse for my budget. For example, have you ever purchased a product at one store only to see it $2 cheaper at another store? It used to happen to me all the time! I suggest looking at all the local beauty retailers from CVS to Sephora, see what sales they have going on, compare costs of basic products, such as mascara, foundation, etc.  Invest time into looking at the Sunday paper, you can catch some great sales looking at those old school ads, lol. Create a wish list and set a spending limit, be realistic, take your needs into account, be sure you have covered the basics, such as mascara, foundation, lipstick, etc.

Keep It Simple

No need to go crazy, keep it simple, as you go you can get novelty products to add to your makeup bag as you go, but for now just stick to the basics, besides every good makeup kit or bag begins with the pillar products of beauty, eye liner, a base, shadow, etc. Below is a list of basics we think you should consider when prepping your wish list.

  • Mascara
  • Base (foundation, tinted moisturizer, crea, to powder foundation, B.B. cream) only one base needed in the building stage
  • Highlighter or illuminating powder
  • Lipstick, lip cream, lip tint, lip color, lip gloss
  • Brush Set ( purchasing a set is more economical, rather than purchasing individually)
  • Shadow Palette I say stick to nudes and earth tones when building your first bag, these colors can be worn daily.
  • Eyeliner, basic black, charcoal gray, or dark brown. Depending on your comfort level, you can use a traditional pencil, gel liner, powder liner, and liquid liner.

Choosing a Makeup Bag or Case

Contemplate and brain storm your immediate needs, are you using this kit for daily use, professional, or travel. These factors matter, when purchasing your makeup bag or case. Durability is very important, flimsy cheaply made bags are a waste of money. Also keep in mind something that will be easy to clean, just in case of spills, and all to disinfect your bag at least weekly. It is highly recommended that your makeup bag is waterproof and comes with an easy way to organize your products. the most frustrating thing to do is to constantly look for your products.

Feel free to email us or moment below with questions and or suggestions.
